For Missouri State Mac users: Address Book LDAP lookup

October 7th, 2008 · No Comments · Study, Work

If you’re a student or a faculty member at Missouri State, chances are you’ve wanted to lookup somebody’s email address (at the university) to shoot them an email. To do that, you typically turn to Missouri State’s website and do a people search. Did you know that you can use your Mac’s Address Book to do that lookup, as well as look up their email address right in Mail.app? Here’s how to do it.

SPORE

September 23rd, 2008 · No Comments · Personal

Last night I went out and purchased SPORE with my birthday money. I figured since EA is going to allow a few more activations and a way to revoke previous activations (coming soon), I’ll throw my cash into their pot and play the game their way. So I’ve got my profile all set up if you’ve got SPORE and want to be my Buddy.

Please. I need buddies. I want to see more content!

(Check out my friend Lloyd’s SPORE page, too.)

Some renovations

September 18th, 2008 · No Comments · Personal

I devoted a little chunk of time tonight to upgrade my WordPress to the latest build of 2.6.x (I’ve already forgotten which version it is), add a plug-in here & there, and switch to a new iPhone-optimized site theme/plugin (WPtouch). I’ll be implementing a new Links page) in the near future that will most likely just run my latest Delicious bookmarks. But that’s just for this website. I’ve got some other things going on, too.

In honor of Muxtape

August 30th, 2008 · No Comments · Personal

It’s a pity the MPAA had to go and waste their time taking a great site like Muxtape offline, but it’s still nice to see the hydra rear its head in the form of Opentape. In either case, I won’t be hosting my Opentape on my site (just yet), but I will post my list of 12 songs that I’m listening to as of late… and that you should check out, too.

The Evernote experiment

August 28th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Study

This semester I’m doing something a little different in an attempt to make myself a better student: posting my notes to Evernote. If you haven’t checked out Evernote, you should; it’s an awesome service (free or premium) that allows you to post text/audio/photo notes from just about anywhere you’re at: a web browser, a Mac, a PC, an iPhone, a mobile phone, you name it. It’s got OCR software that scans for text in images (even handwritten text) and makes it all searchable. I’m posting my notes to Evernote in a public notebook. In other words, everybody that wants to see my notes and how I’m doing in school can check out my Evernote School Notes. And if you think I’m slacking or have suggestions for how I take notes, drop me a line. We’ll see how this goes.

Ah, school

August 24th, 2008 · No Comments · Study

Weeeell, it’s that time again. School starts back up tomorrow (Monday) and it seems like summer has, for the most part, whizzed by. I’m heading into my final year at Missouri State, where I’ll be finishing up my Computer Information Systems degree. I won’t bother posting one of those cheesy reflection posts (yet) but I will say that over the past few years here, I’ve gotten increasingly jaded with college and its politics. There have been numerous things happening on (and off) campus that make me scratch my head. Don’t get me wrong: I’m definitely glad I went to college, but it’s not somewhere that’s completely free of its share of BS. From financial aid hassles, to the reallocation of resources between funds (when promised otherwise), to the dorms, to high textbook prices, to confusing course requirements, to ridiculous spending decisions by the university, to the lack of sessions for required courses… it really is a four (or more) year pain-in-the-ass. I’m hoping things will sail smoothly during my senior year, but it may be wishful thinking. I suppose time will tell. And so will I, if something ridiculous happens. You’ll hear about it here, on my Twitter feed, or on something new I’ll be trying out: my Qik profile for any video announcements/posts. You’ll find both on my sidebar, too. Don’t forget to check out my FriendFeed, which rolls most of my real-time goodness into one page. Enjoy!
